Parent Newsletter 10/25/19

Dear Parents,                                                                          October 25, 2019

It has been wonderful meeting with each of you during conferences to discuss your child's progress in 4th grade. Thank you all for coming and being a partner in their education.

We have been busy these past two weeks.  We also had the pleasure of having VEEP (Vermont Energy Education Program) come in and teach us about scientific investigation and engineering with wind turbines.  Students got to explore stations where they experimented with different variables and collected data.  This fits in so well with our unit on renewable energy that we are beginning and our upcoming trip to the hydro plant in Essex on November 14th.

In math we are learning about efficient strategies for multiplication and using arrays to represent more complex problems.  Students will then use these to explore partial products and then the standard algorithim in multiplication.

In literacy we continue working on adding details to our personal narrative writing, using nouns and adjectives to bring our stories to life.  In reading we are working on the elements of fiction and using these to retell and summarize stories we are reading.  Just a reminder that the book project is due Friday, November 1st.  Our next project will go home later in November!

Hopefully everyone received our letter about the end of the year field trip! We are so excited about it.  Please let us know if you are willing to volunteer in any way.  A link to the letter is below in case you need an additional copy.  Thanks in advance for your assistance!

Enjoy the pictures below.  There's a few!

Have a wonderful weekend!

Tracy
