Here it is, Friday again! The weeks just seem to fly by! There are a few things to share this week!
The field trip to the Hydro Dam in Essex has been cancelled for November 14 due to circumstances beyond our control. The recent flooding has caused longer terms issues and they have asked us to reschedule. We have sent in some possible dates and will let you know as soon as we do. Thank you for understanding.
We shared our book projects on Tuesday. All I can say is WOW! What an amazing job the kids did! The projects themselves and what they shared about the book showed strong comprehension of the story and characters. Our next book project is Fantasy and the books and projects will go home next week. Mrs. Burroughs was out sick this week so we will get our books next Tuesday.
In reading we have started our book clubs. The kids are excited to read a book together and each person has a job they are responsible for. They will also create a way to share their books with the other groups! We will continue to focus on story elements, theme and writing summaries using the elements.
We celebrated finished our first writing pieces on Tuesday as well. Each student edited and revised and we printed them out. Students picked a "Golden Line" to share with the whole class. It was amazing and the other kids were hooked and wanted to hear more!! We will be writing some more pieces in this narrative unit and then will be moving on to informational writing.
In math, we continue to work on 2 digit multiplication and partial products. This involves breaking apart numbers into tens and ones and then multiplying. We are using grid paper to practice this with arrays and learning to make open arrays to divide into partial products as the numbers get larger. This is a big focus for 4th grade and we will be working on it for the next few weeks and revisiting it later in the year.
The kids loved making atomic slime this week! It was something I had planned for last Friday. We have also began to investigate the properties of water as part of our natural resources unit. We are exploring the properties of water, how it moves and behaves as well as the sources of water on the earth.
Winter weather is here, so please make sure your child has appropriate clothing for recess!!
There are many pictures below for you to enjoy!!
Have a wonderful weekend! Enjoy the snow!!
